The Government have announced their final decision regarding the pay award forteachers for 2019, which is a 2.75 % uplift to the minimum and maximum points of all the teacher salary ranges and allowances, including main scale, Upper Pay scale, Leadership and TLR payments. Kirklees, as with most other local authority’s, is proposing a 2.75 % uplift to all salary ranges, in line with the government’s position, although the uplift’s will be applied to all the pay points within each salary range, not just to the min and max points, in order to retain the differentials throughout each salary range and to ensure all teachers receive the same percentage uplift to their pay.
The earliest our payroll section can implement the pay award is in December’s pay date, although of course the pay award will be backdated to 1 September 2019. In order to ensure implementation in December, we will be communicating to schools via Heads Up and via the Business Solutions Website, asking school’s for their feedback by 11 October 2019 – that is, schools are being asked whether they have any concerns regarding the proposed pay award and if none are raised by the deadline, the proposed uplift will be implemented, or, where applicable (Academy, Trust, Diocese) whether the school wishes to adopt a different approach, with the Kirklees proposed uplift being implemented if we do not hear by 11 October. The proposed uplift to teachers pay will also be included on the agenda for any Full Governing Body meetings which are due to take place prior to 11 October 2019.
