I am bringing to your attention a paper that will be considered by the Council’s Cabinet on 19th February 2019 and by the Children’s Scrutiny Panel on 25th February 2019. The paper is entitled Kirklees Annual Educational Quality and Standards Report 2017-18. It draws upon nationally validated data to provide a detailed scrutiny of performance across the borough. The detailed report can be opened from this link to the Cabinet papers.
This is a key report for elected members and system leaders. It provides a baseline for a shared understanding of performance across the Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1 to 4.
There is much to celebrate in the ambitions we have for all our children and young people, however, the analysis identifies areas of improvement which require further action and prioritisation. We have begun to work with our schools, early learning settings and post 16 partners to plan a 5 year Learning Strategy in order that we can collectively focus on these priorities to improve. We will use the Learning Strategy to follow up on the Standards Report with both Cabinet and Children’s Scrutiny Panel.
A separate analysis of Key Stage 5 outcomes is currently being produced and will be shared with colleagues as well as informing the strategy.
I hope you have the time to digest the findings of the report and to consider how best we address the areas for improvement that the analysis identifies. The work we will undertake together to produce the Learning Strategy will provide the opportunity for you to feedback your thoughts and suggestions.
