Please see message below from the new appointed Strategic Director of Children Services;
"It’s a privilege to be joining you as the new Strategic Director of Children’s Services in Kirklees.
I’ve been here for just over a week and have been really impressed with the warm welcome I’ve already received from so many people.
Having previously worked in local government in Leicester, Derbyshire and Rotherham - where I was the Acting Director before moving to Kirklees – I have lots of experience in leading a range of services for children, young people and families.
I will also be bringing passion and commitment as we all work together in helping the district’s young people to enjoy the best start in life.
Although I’m new to Kirklees, I’m well aware of the challenges you have faced in the last couple of years. I also know there have been a lot of changes in leadership, but I want to stress that my appointment is to the permanent DCS role and a big part of my job is to bring stability.
Steve Walker and Sal Tariq, along with many other colleagues, have been central in supporting the improvements you continue to make. Steve and Sal aren’t going anywhere for the time being. They will continue their roles here, as key people in the Improvement Partnership with Leeds, until the time is appropriate for that to change. I’ll be working with them closely and there will be a long handover period to make sure the transition is a smooth one for everybody.
Everything we do will be designed to continue the progress you have already made and make sure we have the right conditions for high standards. That’s what helps professionals to deliver the best work of their lives – and it equips us to keep children safe and give families the support they need at a time when it makes the most difference.
I’m very committed to supporting our local schools, as well as the wider partnership. There will be lots of challenges, but we will overcome them by working together so that children in Kirklees are able to thrive.
My first week was quite hectic as it coincided with an Ofsted monitoring visit, but I will be getting out and about from now on. Thanks again for your warm welcome and I look forward to meeting you soon."
