Many boards are struggling to run a balanced budget. For nearly all schools and trusts, by far the largest portion of their budget is staffing costs. The Department for Education (DfE) have attempted to agree deals with suppliers in order to save schools time and money. One of these is the supply teacher agreement, which involves a list of preferred agencies which are properly accredited and should provide value to money for schools. Governing boards can ask senior leaders if they have investigated this deal, and other ‘deals for schools’, to see whether they can save their school money.
