Over the Summer we have been redeveloping the Kirklees Additional Needs Register and registrations recommenced on Monday 5 November. We need your support to ensure that parents and carers of children and young people with SEND are aware of the register.
What is the Additional Needs Register?
Under the Children Act 1989 all local authorities are required to maintain a register of children and young people with special educational needs and or disabilities in their area. In Kirklees this is known as the Additional Needs Register. Registration is voluntary and can only be completed with consent.
The information we receive from the registration form will give us a clearer picture of special educational needs and disability in Kirklees and helps us to plan services across Education, Health and Social Care.
To register children or young people must:
Be aged between 0-25 years of age
Live in Kirklees or be the responsibility of Kirklees Council
Have a special educational need and / or disability
How will children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families benefit?
By registering, families are helping to provide a bigger picture of SEND in Kirklees which will help to support commissioning decisions.
Where agreed to, families can receive a termly SEND newsletter providing information on relevant subjects / opportunities.
Registration entitles the individual and one parent or carer to a free ‘Flexi Card’ with Kirklees Active Leisure giving a 20% discount on a wide range of activities.
Posters and postcards raising awareness of the Additional Needs Register are currently being distributed to all schools and settings.
