Following engagement with Kirklees High School Heads (KHSH) about the need for additional secondary places initially in the North of Kirklees an opportunity to express an interest in expanding places was launched in October. The closing date for expressions of interest is 9th November. Information and expression of interest form attached.
In late June 2018 engagement took place with Kirklees High School Heads (KHSH) about the need for additional secondary places initially in the North of Kirklees. The following estimates were shared at a specially arranged meeting and then distributed with minutes of the meeting for those unable to attend:
North Kirklees: 30 new permanent places plus 30 to 60 single year bulge places for September 2019 30 new permanent places for September 2021
South Kirklees: Possibility of 30 permanent places for September 2021 in the North and West Huddersfield area Possibility of 30 single year places for September 2021 in the Colne Valley area
It was agreed that this did not represent a need for a new secondary school and there were opportunities for some schools to expand their places to address this need.
The above estimates are based on 2017 data published in the annual Securing Sufficient Learning Places document. A 2018 update is due to be published later this term and these estimates will be reviewed and the results shared shortly after.
Following on from this engagement and as discussed at KHSH earlier this month I am launching the opportunity for Kirklees secondary schools to express an early interest in providing additional places to meet the future need for additional places. A simple proforma is enclosed to express an interest. The proforma makes clear that expressions of interest can be withdrawn at any time which allows schools to review their position when the 2018 update is available and have had more time to discuss the opportunities with governing bodies/MAT etc.
Guiding principles for expanding school places have been adapted in line with the feedback from the June engagement event with KHSH and are included on the back of the proforma.
Where appropriate submit an expression of interest (EOI) by e-mail no later than 9th November to email@example.com
School Organisation and Planning team will acknowledge receipt of a completed EOI within 2 working days
EOIs will be collated and shared with KHSH and the Education and Learning Partnership Board in the second half of the Autumn term along with a 2018 school place planning update
Then subject to agreement:
Recommendations for taking schemes forward as the collective response to need for additional places for September 2019 will be made
Kirklees decision making process (to be confirmed subject to the details of the solutions)
Agreement between Kirklees Council and the selected schools confirmed and implementation planning early 2019
