On 7 March 2017, Kirklees Cabinet gave approval for the authority to invite applications to run a new primary free school to serve the North Huddersfield area. Alongside this, a separate application has been running to secure planning permission for the new school to be built at Clare Hill Playing Fields.
Applications to run the new school opened on 3 April 2017. The specification for the new school, along with the application form and the criteria against which applications will be assessed, are available on the Kirklees Council website:
There will be a seven week period for prospective sponsors to submit applications, after which Kirklees will submit details of all sponsors to the DfE. Kirklees will then make its own assessment, and subsequently make a recommendation to the DfE, but it will be the Secretary of State that makes the final decision.
