We are aware of several organisations and groups that have been in touch with the Council to express their interest in submitting proposals as part of the Free School process. Potential proposers must follow DfE guidance when applying to set up a Free School. The guidance can be found here.
Whilst the ‘window’ for applications has not been formally announced by the DfE, in previous years this has been around February/March time. Schools, community groups and parents may be approached by potential Free School proposers as part of an engagement process to seek views. This is a requirement as part of any Free School application. Where a potential proposer contacts the LA, to discuss potential opportunities, they will be invited to meet with Senior Officers to ensure there is a clear understanding. Contact with the LA does not in any way mean an endorsement of a free school proposal. The LA will respond in due course to a free school proposal if and when it is submitted.
As and when further information becomes available please be assured we will make this available. If you have any questions, queries or concerns please contact Jo-Anne Sanders in the first instance.
