Over the half term break the government have released the latest update to Keeping Children Safe in Education. It is dated May 2016 however will not take effect in schools until 5th September 2016.
I will be ensuring that the next KSCB Model Safeguarding Policy will be updated to reflect the changes.
There are a number of moderate changes to the guidance, however the most significant change is the wording of frequency for whole school staff safeguarding training which has been changed from the phrase “regular updates” to define the time as “annually”. You will be aware that up until this time the majority of schools provide update safeguarding training to staff on a 3 yearly cycle. This needs to be upgraded to annually in order to meet the terms of the guidance.
I will be seeking guidance on how this will be implemented from the KSCB training angle. A document has already been prepared by a national leading School Safeguarding Consultant – Andrew Hall who has summarised the changes
Would governing bodies please read these changes and ensure that necessary changes have been implemented
