Between 3 November 2015 and 29 January 2016 the DfE ran a consultation on how to get at least 90% of pupils to take GCSEs in the EBacc subjects. Concerns about the 90% target were also raised by attendees of the two EBacc focus groups NGA held with DfE. NGA shares these concerns, and in their response they said that “expecting schools to enter 90% of pupils for the EBacc will result in them having to decide between being seen as performing well in the performance tables and making a choice in the best interests of pupils”. The DfE is due to publish its response to the consultation by the end of April. We will inform members about the DfE’s response in the newsletter.
