The influence of the peer group, especially amongst young people, is powerful. IYCE can provide training and support to your students to enable them to take on the role of peer educators, influencing their peers in positive and informed ways whilst gaining new skills, confidence and knowledge themselves.
Similarly, young people talk to each other about sensitive issues. Bullying, drugs, parents and relationships, for example, are subjects which are important to young people but which they may be reluctant to discuss with adults. IYCE will provide activities and opportunities for your students which will enable them to become peer mentors offering support from a position of real understanding.
IYCE learning activities to develop students’ skills for peer-led work include:
collaboration and team work
listening to others
identifying sources of help
games, quizzes and other ways to share knowledge
getting out and about.
