Work related learning for year 11 students.
Nexus In-School, in partnership with C&K Careers, offers a range of extended work placement opportunities with local employers. The service caters for Year 11 students who are in school but would benefit from a more practical element to their current curriculum. Project Officers support students to attend work placement for up to three days per week whilst continuing to study a reduced number of GCSE’s in school.
Each student has a dedicated Project Officer who will work with them over the summer to prepare them for the workplace. Project Officers arrange all work placements and student interviews, health and safety assessments, student inductions as well as visiting students in placement on a regular basis. Nexus In-School provides a high level of support to students, families, schools and local businesses supporting the project.
Nexus In-School works in partnership with all appropriate agencies involved with the student. Project Officers provide:
support to improve and maintain attendance
half termly progress reviews in school
weekly mentoring and support
help with Post-16 transitions into further education or training.
Work related learning
Nexus In-School offers students the opportunity to take part in structured group work sessions that explore and compliment their learning on placement. These sessions aim to equip students for their next steps.
Our success in 2015/16
92% retention rate
100% achievement rate
96% of students offered Post-16 courses that meet the duty
38% were offered an apprenticeship
Students who can benefit:
Students likely to benefit from a practical element alongside their education
Students who are motivated to work
Students who have had previous successful work experience
Students likely to benefit from studying a reduced number of GCSEs in order to achieve in core subjects
Students where attendance is starting to become an issue

Please take into account the expectations likely to be placed on students and their ability to cope with the demands of an extended placement. Extended work experience may not be appropriate for all learners displaying behavioural difficulties in a school environment.

The support given to our students has really gone above and beyond with both students making excellent progress.
We really have enjoyed working in
partnership and look forward to working together again.
I think a lot of Nexus and thank you for all the hard work.
I think our student only remained on track because of the project.
I really rate Nexus as the best educational alternative for disengaged students.
NEXUS has helped my son's confidence and self esteem.
If he had not been able to do the programme, I believe he would not have made it to the end of the school year.
NEXUS has been the best thing for my son. He has come on really well. I would recommend NEXUS to anyone, it’s been brilliant.

Nexus has been brilliant for my son. The project officer has been fantastic. I would highly recommend it.
Nexus In-School Team
Nexus has been a great alternative provision for some of our more vulnerable students. We would highly recommend the project.
The Nexus programme has been great for both our young people. The level of support from the project worker has been first class and it is something that we as a school are hoping to invest in next year.
The best outcome for both of our students would be an apprenticeship. I know this is something they are both close to achieving.
