Display energy certificates
Under legislation all school buildings that have members of the public visiting on a regular basis must display a valid Display Energy Certificate (DEC). This applies if the gross internal area of the building is greater than 250m2.
We can offer to arrange for an accredited assessor to update and lodge your DEC with the legislative body (costs include lodgement and registration fees) and provide you with a hard copy for display.
Important things to note
This service is available to Kirklees maintained schools who are on the Councils YPO utility contracts,as 12 months of fuel bills must be provided.
Legislation requires the certificate to be renewed annually for buildings over 1000m2 and only every 10 years for a building 250-1000 m2.
Schools with two or more separate buildings on the same site, each with a floor area above the limit will require one DEC per building.
Advisory Reports– Occasional mandatory requirement
Alongside DECs, an Advisory Report detailing improvements that could be made to building fabric and operation is also required to be complied, lodged and held on site
For buildings with an area above 1000 sqm an Advisory Report is valid for 7 years, for smaller buildings the report is valid for 10 years
From July 2016, schools that have procured DECs through Kirklees will start to need renewed Advisory Reports
A new framework contract under which Advisory Reports can be ordered together with DECs is being finalised
When the new framework is finalised, if you require a new Advisory Report within 2016-17, you will be notified at the point of order and Advisory Report will be available for purchase at cost through the Energy Team
